Applications
Before you apply, make sure that you’ve researched the breed. This is important so that you can be confident that a Maine Coon kitten is suited to you and your family before you adopt. (Remember to discuss it with your partner and family — taking on a kitten is a big responsibility and a life-changing decision for everyone at home.)
Every cat breed has its own unique characteristics and temperament. This is especially true for rescue or rehomed kittens.
So, if you haven’t already, check out the information in our About Maine Coons in Australia section. Additionally, visit our friends at Maine Coon Australia, where you’ll find plenty of helpful information and advice to guide your decision.
THE ADOPTION PROCESS
Our adoption process focuses on matching the needs and personality of the kitten with the environment of its new home. There are some basic criteria you’ll need to meet in order to adopt a Maine Coon kitten:
- A safe and secure indoor space (with supervised outdoor access if possible) is essential.
- The kitten should not be left alone for long periods of time.
- We will not place a kitten in a home that plans to rely on boarding or daycare regularly.
- You must be at least 21 years old to adopt.
If you meet these basic requirements — great! Let’s move forward.
What You Need to Know
Maine Coon kittens come into our care for a variety of reasons — sometimes from breeders who can no longer care for them, or from homes where circumstances have changed.
As a result, some kittens may show signs of anxiety or insecurity at first. As an adopter, you’ll need to be patient and prepared to help your kitten adjust, with our full support and guidance along the way.
Timing
You may need to wait a little while before a suitable kitten becomes available. While we rehome many Maine Coons across Australia, there are often more potential adopters than kittens available.
So please be patient — it’s worth the wait for the perfect match
Still Interested? Great!
If you’re unsure or have any questions, please reach out to the adoption coordinator for your region. You’ll find their details on our Contact Us page.
If you’re confident that a rescued Maine Coon kitten is right for you and your family — and you can meet all the conditions listed above — please go ahead and complete the adoption application form below.
Note: We review every application carefully. You’ll receive both an email and an SMS confirming that we’ve received your application. However, if you cannot meet the adoption conditions, your application will not be approved.
What Happens Next?
Your details will be sent to the coordinator for your area, who will contact you only when a kitten becomes available that may be a good fit for your home, lifestyle, and family.
Home Check
When we find a potential match, our coordinator will arrange a home visit to ensure everything is ready and suitable for your new kitten.
Adoption Fee
Once everything has been approved, an adoption fee will be payable before your kitten joins your family.
This fee helps cover some of the costs incurred in rehoming — including veterinary care, vaccinations, microchipping, spaying/neutering, medication, food, temporary housing, and transport.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your local coordinator.
Their details can be found here.
We will keep your application on file for 12 months. Please let us know if your circumstances change during that time.
